What Happened

The March 2026 Change — and What It Actually Was

In early March 2026, Dubai Police and the RTA allowed trucks to use all of Dubai's roads around the clock — a genuine break from the long-standing daytime restriction windows. Two exceptions stayed in force throughout: the Airport Tunnel and Al Shindagha Tunnel.

The part many contractors missed: it was temporary. The easing ran to 4 March and was then extended to 8 March 2026 to support logistics flows (see the Khaleej Times report and the DP World / Dubai Trade extension notice). Outside windows like that one, Dubai's standard truck restriction hours apply on designated corridors — plan your deliveries on the normal rules unless the RTA announces another easing.

Always Regulated

What Needs a Permit Regardless of the Clock

Abnormal & oversized loads

A 30T excavator on a low-bed counts. Oversized moves need RTA permits, approved routes, and sometimes escort vehicles — whatever the time of day.

Gated zones

JAFZA, Dubai South, Dubai Industrial City and similar zones need gate passes arranged before the truck arrives. Missing passes are the single most common cause of delivery delays.

Route & timing rules

Restriction windows vary by road and vehicle class. Route planning against the current RTA schedule is part of a competent delivery, not an optional extra.

What It Means for You

How This Affects Your Rental

If you rent from a supplier who handles transport — as we do — the rules above are the supplier's paperwork, not yours. When you book, tell us the zone and any site access constraints; we arrange route permits, gate passes and escorts as part of the delivery, and the compliance is priced into the quote rather than surprising you afterwards.

Transport rules are only half the paperwork — the site itself needs approvals too. Our UAE construction permits guide maps every permit from mobilisation to completion certificate.

Moving a crane? Size it right before you book the transport — here’s what size crane the job needs.

Booking in Dubai? Rates, zones and dispatch times are on our heavy vehicle rental Dubai page.
